Pride Win 9-0 In Lopsided Victory

Grand Praire, TX- Shortly after it was announced that the third game in this Pride/ Diamonds series in Grand Praire would be cancelled due to heat, the teams faced off in game two where former Texas University star Cat Osterman would shut out the Diamonds in front of her home crowd, winning 9-0. Osterman would stifle the Diamonds in her complete game shut out, giving up two hits, striking out 6 and walking two.

The scoring would start in the bottom of the first as Jessica Mendoza hit another home run, a two run shot to deep center. Mendoza hit in Watley who had a single in her first at bat of the game.

After another two run inning in the second, the Pride started right where they left off, scoring 3 more runs in thanks to four consecutive singles to start the inning, all which was started off by Charlotte Morgan. Andrea Duran would come up and hit into the first out of the inning, hitting a fielders choice which scored Kelly Kretschman from third. The inning came to an end after Megan Willis hit into another fielders choice and Watley flew out to left.

Osterman would continue to keep the Diamonds in check throughout the game, giving the Pride a chance to add a little more insurance runs to the run total. In the bottom of the fifth, the Pride would put up two more runs. Watley would single home Andrea Duran who had reached on a walk earlier in the inning. Lauren Lappin came in pinch hitting for Ashley Charters and singled home Megan Willis who reached on a single as well earlier in the inning. At the end of the fifth the Pride would have the lead 9-0

The Pride would go on to win the game in a lopsided victory, with the final score of 9-0 as Cat Osterman held the Pride to no runs and only two hits. She would earn her 13th victory of the season. Megan Gibson would get the loss for the Diamonds, taking her record to 1-5 on the year.

The next game for the USSSA Pride will be on August 11th at 8:30pm EST/ 7:30CST against the Chicago Bandits at Rosemont Stadium. It will be the Pride’s last regular season series before heading to Sulpher, LA for the NPF Championship series in which they will hold the number one seed, and play against the fourth seeded Diamonds in a three game set. Mendoza Homer Leads Pride over Diamonds; Wins Regular Season Title in 2-0 Win

Grand Praire, TX- The USSSA Pride and the NPF Diamonds traveled to Grand Prairie, Texas early Friday morning after playing three games in Calgary, Canada. The Pride were victorious in the first two contests, aiming to sweep the Diamonds but they could not hold off a late game surge by Danielle Spaulding and the Diamonds offense as they fell 3-2.

The USSSA Pride sent Jordan Taylor (1-0) to the mound to face the Diamonds own Morgan Melloh (3-11).

Taylor would enter into a first inning jam after retiring Mejia on a groundout, Loryn Johnson would line a double to left center, putting a runner in scoring position. She would not be phased as she would strike out the next two batters to retire the side.

The USSSA Pride got on the board first in the second inning as Jessica Mendoza would hit a lead off solo home run to left field, putting the Pride up 1-0. Charlotte Morgan would draw a walk and be pushed into scoring position by a sacrifice bunt by Ashley Charters. The Pride wouldn’t be able to capitalize as Tonya Callahan would pop out to first to end the inning.

The Diamonds would have a bases loaded opportunity in the top of the third as a Biannca Mejia single would push Jessica Bachkora to second. Loryn Johnson would come up and single up the middle to load the bases. Megan Gibson would hit into a fielders choice and the Pride would get the force out at home, bringing up Brianna Hesson who would go down swinging to end the inning.

A scary moment would come in the bottom of the 5th as a Caitlin Lowe line drive would hit Diamond pitcher Morgan Melloh in the head, forcing her to leave the game unable to continue. Rhiannon Kliesing would come on to get the third out, striking out Alissa Haber to end the fifth.

After retiring the Diamonds in order, the Pride got some insurance in the 6th as a wild throw by Diamonds catcher Brittany McKinney was sent into left field, allowing Mendoza to easily score from third after reaching base earlier in the inning on a walk. The Pride would lead 2-0 going into the top of the 7th.

Jordan Taylor would continue her solid outting, retiring the side in the 7th inning holding the Diamonds scoreless and winning her second game of the year. The win gives the Pride their 26th win of the season and their 19th victory in their last 20 games. Taylor would finish the game having given up no runs on 5 hits, striking out 9 and walking none. Morgan Melloh would be credited her 12th loss of the season, giving up 1 run on three hits, while walking two and striking out 1.

With the win tonight the USSSA Pride clinched the NPF regular season championship, their franchise first.

The USSSA Pride will face off again against the NPF Diamonds at QuikTrip Park in Grand Praire, Texas tomorrow at 7:05pm, 8:05 ET. The Pride will send Olympic Gold Medalist Cat Osterman (12-2) to the mound in what will be another exciting showcase of the best softball in the world. Defense Backs Spaulding to Top Pride 3-2

Calgary, Alberta – Down 2-0 after the first inning the NPF Tennessee Diamonds scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat the USSSA Florida Pride 3-2 at Foothills Stadium in Calgary, Alberta. After taking the lead the Diamonds held on by leaving the bases loaded in the final inning. Danielle Spaulding was terrific for the Diamonds throwing the complete seven inning game and allowing two runs while striking out seven.

The Pride opened the scoring in the top of the first inning when Alissa Haber was hit by a pitch during an 11 pitch at-bat, Jessica Mendoza singled, Kelley Kretschman walked to load the bases, and Melissa Roth knocked in two runs with a double for a 2-0 lead.

In the bottom of the sixth the Diamonds broke through as Bianca Mejia singled, Loryn Johnson was hit by a pitch, Megan Gibson doubled in a run, Brianna Hesson collected a sacrifice fly to tie the game, and with two outs Brittany McKinney drove in a run with a base hit for a 3-2 lead.

In the top of the 7th inning, Ashley Charters led off the inning with a single for the Pride. Caitlin Lowe’s sacrifice bunt would move the tying run into scoring position, bringing up Haber who would hit a liner off of Danielle Spaulding, but Spaulding would still record the out at first but moving Charters to 3rd. After back to back walks by Mendoza and Kretschman, Charlotte Morgan would come on to pinch hit for Roth but would fail to hit in the tying run, grounding out to Biancca Mejia for the final out of the game, giving Danielle Spaulding her second win as a Diamond pitcher and her first win against her former team.

Danielle Spaulding would pitch a complete game, giving up 6 hits, 2 earned runs, while walking 7 and striking out 7. Sarah Pauly would pitch a very solid game but could not hold on, suffering her third loss of the season giving up 4 hits and 3 earned runs, walking none and striking out four.

Pride Win in Lopsided Victory 17-4

Calgary, Alberta– Giving up three big innings the NPF Tennessee Diamonds were defeated 17-4 by the USSSA Florida Pride at Foothills Stadium in Calgary, Alberta. The Pride scored seven times in the first inning, four times in the fifth, and six more tallies in the seventh frame to collect all their runs. Canadian Olympian Danielle Lawrie picked up the win with five innings and three strikeouts. Fellow Canadian Olympian Jenn Salling collected two hits, three runs batted in, and scored two runs.

The Pride jumped onto the scoreboard in the top of the first inning when Caitlin Lowe reached on a fielding error, Alissa Haber walked, Charlotte Morgan singled for a run battted in, Francesca Enea walked, Ashley Charters collected a sacrifice fly, Andrea Duran doubled in two, Lauren Lappin singled, Canadian Olympian Jenn Salling singled in two, and Natasha Watley knocked in one with a base hit for a 7-0 lead.

The Diamonds got onto the scoreboard in the second frame as Jami Lobpries walked and Brittany McKinney hit a two-run home run for a 7-2 score.

In the fifth the Pride scored again with four runs for a 11-2 advantage when Morgan hit a solo home run, Enea singled, Charters hit a two-run home run, Duran doubled, and Watley singled for a RBI.

The Diamonds got two runs back in the bottom of the fifth inning as McKinney hit her second home run of the night and Bianca Mejia also hit a solo home run for a 11-4 score.

The Pride increased their lead in the seventh frame when Duran singled, Lappin doubled, Salling and Watley singled in one each, Lowe walked to load the bases, Kelley Kretschman cleared the bases with a three-run double, and Kretschman scored on a throwing error for a 17-4 lead.

Although they collected two home runs it was not enough as the NPF Tennessee Diamonds were defeated 6-5 by the USSSA Florida Pride at Foothills Stadium in Calgary, Alberta. After leading by 1-0 and 3-2 scores the Diamonds allowed three runs in the fourth inning to fall behind for good. USA Olympian Cat Osterman was excellent on the mound for the Pride tossing five innings and striking out ten while only allowing two hits for the win. Jordan Taylor took over with the last two innings for the save while striking out three. Bianca Mejia and Jessica Bachkova went deep in the loss for the Diamonds.

The Diamonds scored first in the bottom of the first inning when Mejia hit a leadoff home run for a 1-0 advantage.

The Pride answered in the second frame as Kelly Kretschman singled, Andrea Duran laid down a sacrifice bunt while also reaching on an error, Kelsey Bruder walked to load the bases, Natasha Watley collected a sacrifice fly to tie the game, and a second run scored on a passed ball for a 2-1 lead.

In the bottom of the second the Diamonds tied the game at 2-2 when Brianna Hesson walked and a run scored after a fielding error.

The Diamonds retook the lead at 3-2 in the third inning as Mejia singled, Megan Gibson walked, and Hesson drove in a run with a single.

Right back came the Pride with three runs in the fourth frame for a 5-3 advantage. Megan Willis was hit by a pitch, Watley singled, Ashley Charters walked to load the bases, Jessica Mendoza was hit by a pitch for a run batted in, and Francesca Enea singled in two runs.

The Pride added a run to the lead in the sixth when Charters walked, stole second base, and scored on a Charlotte Morgan RBI single for a 6-3 score.

In the bottom of the sixth inning the Diamonds got back to within one run at 6-5 as Jami Lobries singled and Jessica Bachkova hit a two-run home run.

Games two and three of this Women’s Pro Fastpitch series between the USSSA Florida Pride and the NPF Tennessee Diamonds will be on Wednesday August 3rd and Thursday August 4th at 6:30 at Foothills Stadium.
