Montalvo’s Walkoff Homerun Beats the Pride 4-2

Ricketts went 2-0 against the Bandits

Ricketts suffered the loss against the Racers after giving up 3 ER in 6 IP

Akron, OH-August 7, 2014-Starting pitcher Lisa Norris held the potent USSSA Florida Pride lineup to two runs in seven innings and Kelley Montalvo delivered a walkoff two-run home run to propel the Racers to a 4-2 win on Thursday night at Firestone Stadium in Akron, OH.

Taylor Schlopy led off the bottom of the 7th inning with a double and the Pride removed starting pitcher Keilani Ricketts in favor of Jordan Taylor. After Taylor struck out pinch-hitter Brianna Cherry, Montalvo delivered her game-winning homerun to center field. With the win, the Racers improved their home record at Firestone Stadium to 15-5.
In the top of the third, the Pride struck first on a RBI single by Natasha Watley. Brigette Del Ponte, who had walked and reached third when Megan Willis’s ground ball was misplayed, scored on Watley’s hit. The Pride made it 2-0 in the top of the fourth when Amanda Kamekona launched her team-leading sixth homerun to left field. However, that was all the offense the Pride had as Norris shutout the Pride line-up the rest of the way. Caitlin Lowe extended her hit streak to 16 games after a single in the top of the first.
Charlotte Morgan made it a 2-1 game in the bottom of the fourth with a leadoff, solo homerun to center field. In the bottom of the fifth, Ayumi Karino hit a two-out triple to right field then scored when Jill Barrett’s bunt was misplayed by Kamekona tying the game at 2-2.
Norris (4-5) allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks while striking out three to earn her fourth win of the year. Ricketts (4-6) suffered the loss after giving up two earned runs on four hits and striking out seven in six innings pitched. Taylor came on for the last two hitters striking out one and giving up the Montalvo homerun.
