The Rebellion Lose Close Contest to USSSA Pride 1-0

usssa_pride_1-01111Washington, PA-June 7, 2014 – For the second time in an eight game series to start their inaugural season, the Pennsylvania Rebellion, presented by The Coury Financial Group, lost a close 1-0 contest to the Pride on Saturday at CONSOL Energy Park.  Angel Bunner suffered the loss for Pennsylvania while Blaire Luna threw 94 strikes in the win.

USSSA’s lone run of the contest came in the top of the second inning with one swing of the bat. First baseman GiOnna DiSalvatore put the Pride ahead with a solo shot over the right field fence to make it 1-0. USSSA threatened again to score in the top of the third, but Rebellion catcher Taylor Edwards thwarted their plans to extend the lead, as she gunned down two baserunnners at second.

Pennsylvania broke up the chances of a no-hitter in the latter half of the third inning when left fielder Mandy Ogle belted a single to give the Rebellion their first hit of the game. Ogle paced the Rebellion at the plate, going 2-3 with two singles.

The Rebellion looked to overtake USSSA in the bottom of the fifth inning when they had the bases loaded with two outs, but Pride pitcher Luna and worked her way out of the jam.

Luna finished her 5 1/3-inning performance giving up just two hits, walking five Rebellion batters and striking out two.

A single by second baseman Lauren Lappin in the bottom of the seventh inning looked promising for a Pennsylvania comeback, but the one run proved to be too much, settling the final score 1-0 in favor of the Pride.

Pennsylvania will play their final game of their inaugural home stand Sunday, June 8 as they round out their four-game series against USSSA.
